How to avoid damage to your nonstick
Follow these simple steps to avoid some of the common ways your nonstick pan can be damaged:
- Avoid using continuous high heat and/or overheating the pan as this can cause discolouration and permanently damage your nonstick surface.
- Do not use steel wool, coarse scouring pads or harsh abrasives to clean cookware.
- Do not store food in cookware after cooking.
- Do not leave utensils in cookware during cooking.
- Do not use aerosol oil sprays on your cookware as the ultra-thin layer of oil will quickly burn onto the surface when the cookware is heated. To use oil sprays for flavour, lightly spray the food before adding to the preheated cookware.
- Although minor scratches will not impair the performance of your cookware, the use of sharp metal kitchen utensils such as forks, knives or whisks is not recommended.
- Do not allow cookware to boil dry and never leave empty cookware on a hot burner.
- Do not use oven cleaners to clean cookware, as these are not designed for this purpose and will ruin the cookware.
Why is my cookware sticking?
Is food starting to stick to your nonstick? The loss of nonstickiness on your pan can happen for a variety of reasons.
- There is a build-up of food on the pan that is preventing the nonstick surface from working. Try a deep-clean of your pan by following the simple steps within the 'How to clean nonstick' section above.
- Your pan has been overheated. You may not have accidentally left your pan on the heat, but continuously cooking on high-heat, rather than medium, can damage the surface of your pan.
- There may be a build-up of oil. Oil, grease and fat particles heat up faster than your nonstick pan which can cause scorching and can damage your nonstick surface. You don’t need to use oil with your nonstick pans, however some people prefer to use a little oil for flavour.
